Honest About Email

Any provider can read messages that arrive unencrypted, including us. We tell you that upfront.

[ About Us ]

Why we built HiddenMX.

We built HiddenMX because private email should work without JavaScript. It should not require a phone number, recovery email, or other personal details. Too many anonymity-focused services are hard to trust and promise more than email can deliver. We wanted a service that is easy to use in Tor Browser and honest about what providers can still see.

Use HiddenMX over Tor.

For better privacy and security, we recommend using HiddenMX in Tor Browser. We designed the site specifically for Tor, and our onion service connects directly to HiddenMX without going through the public proxy.

[ FAQ ]

Frequently asked questions.

Does HiddenMX require JavaScript?

No. The public site and webmail use regular links and forms. Mail works with JavaScript disabled.

Can I use HiddenMX over Tor?

Yes. Open our onion address in Tor Browser to use the website and webmail. The onion service does not provide public IMAP or SMTP access.

Is HiddenMX end-to-end encrypted?

Not by default. HiddenMX and other email providers can read messages that arrive without end-to-end encryption. Tor protects your connection to our onion service, but it does not encrypt ordinary email from sender to recipient.

For important messages, encrypt the message yourself with PGP before sending it. HiddenMX does not manage PGP keys or encrypt messages for you.

Where are HiddenMX's servers located?

Our public-facing proxy and mail server is located in Panama. The backend server that stores mail and runs the webmail application is in an undisclosed location.

Why does a new account lock after 40 days?

An account that has never upgraded locks 40 days after registration. Mailbox access and incoming mail stop, but existing mail is kept. One confirmed Premium payment unlocks the account, and the signup lock does not return.

How do I change or recover my password?

Change your password in Settings with your current password. If you forget it, use the recovery key shown during registration. A successful reset gives you a new recovery key, and the old key stops working.
